Safety is everybody’s concern. No one wants to be in danger even for just couple of seconds. Even our safest place – what we called home – may not be safe at all times. Especially when dealing with electricity.

I remember a weekend when dad went home carrying lots of boxes. I thought they are gifts but they are not. They are electrical products bought from Panther Electrical Supplies. Question marks start popping out of my head until Dad told us that we must think and practice electrical home safety and it will start with the right and high quality of electrical products.

For me to help the family prepare and educate about electrical safety, I researched about it and here are what I found and I think they are worth sharing!

  1. Check out electrical cords or cables weekly for damage. When you do general house cleaning, be sure also to check these. Damaged cords must be repaired as soon as possible and will not be used until fixed. Worn cables can cause shocks, short-circuit and can start fire.
  2. Never pull the cord when taking out a plug from the wall socket. Hold it on the plastic housing not on the cord.
  3. Do not overload electrical outlets with too many items plugged in at once. Better to use one outlet only for one device or appliances. You may also use an automatic voltage supply to supply 2 to three device. Just make sure that the Power Rating of the AVR is enough to supply the devices connected in it.
  4. Water and electricity are not perfect combination. Never ever! Do not operate appliances near a bathtub, sink full of water or any container that has water.
  5. Never insert things inside the wall socket. The only things that can put into outlets are the plugs. Nothing more, nothing less!
  6. Do not use appliances that emit sparks or do not work properly. Unplug them as soon as possible.
  7. Always unplug appliances when cleaning, repairing and not using it. Also when removing food from the oven, toaster or any like appliances.
  8. Bear in mind that turned-off appliances are still connected to electricity until it is unplugged.
  9. Limit the use of extension cords. Make sure that the extension is the appropriate size for use. There are appliances that require heavy-duty extension cords.

Tips are simple and easy to understand, right? But the harmful effects of electricity when not properly used are not simple at all. Most fires are caused by overloaded electrical connections. Be electrically panther safe!
